Jurgów's folklore group presents Spisz culture by performing traditional Jurgów short songs (spiewki) and dance (polka and czardasz). One of the most popular dances of the Jurgów group is "Staro baba" which also includes
singing. Other dances performed by the group are ritualistic, like one called "Ogrywanie Mojek".
The group has won many awards at festival competitions over
the years. In 1985 they won the "Gold Heatr" at the All-Polish Review
of Highlander Groups in Zywiec, the "Silver Axe" at the International Goral World Festival
in Zakopane, the "Gold Dragon" award at the Review of Cepelia's
Folklore Groups in Kraków, and a special honor at the Ritual Dance festival
in Rzeszów. In 1986 the group took First Prize at the All-Polish Festival of
Village Culture in Przytoczna.
(Please note: Jurgów's folklore group had other later successes
as well, but I do not have the specifics ocumented. I'm hoping someone who has
this information will contact me. I'll be happy to publish the rest of their
history on this web site.)

(Nowadays more young people are uninterested in their region's folklore and tradition. Sadly, many would rather play computer games, watch TV or go to the disco instead, so fewer are performing the traditional music of our culture.)
